If you have old wicker furniture that needs a facelift, try giving it a new lease of life with a fresh coat of paint. Wicker can take on almost any color, for example for wicker bedroom furniture or living room furniture, you could choose white or a chocolate brown. On the other hand for patio furniture, you could choose a rich green or a maroon. This project can get messy, so make sure you start your work outside and ensure that the weather is warm and sunny.
What you will need – a drop cloth, sponge, liquid deglosser and outdoor acrylic paint in a spray can.
- Step 1 – Start by laying the drop cloth in the area you plan to work. Ensure that the paint fumes are far away from your home.
- Step 2 – Clean your furniture with the sponge and some soapy water. Leave the furniture to dry for awhile. You can now apply the deglosser (follow the manufacturer’s instructions). Once the deglosser is applied, leave your furniture to dry overnight.
- Step 3 – Spray paint the surfaces using a spray can. Make sure you cover all exposed surfaces.
- Step 4 – Leave your furniture to dry for at least 2 hours. If you feel that the colour is too light, add another coat.
Your furniture is now ready for use. This process can be used on weaves of wicker made out of bamboo, willow or seagrass furniture.
